Dr. Thomas McElwee was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina and educated at local schools. He went to UNC Chapel Hill where he majored in English and Chemistry and graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1980. His training in General and Vascular Surgery was done at Baptist Hospital affiliated with Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. He was a clinical instructor at East Carolina University for one year before joining the group in 1986. He was able to practice with his father, Ross McElwee for two years. Dr. McElwee is a member of the American Board of Surgeons, the North Carolina Surgical Association, the Charlotte Surgical Society, and the Southern Society of Clinical Surgeons. He enjoys a broad practice of general surgery including laparoscopic and vascular surgery, colon and breast cancer procedures, and upper and lower endoscopic procedures. He has a special interest in diseases of veins including surgery, sclerotherapy, and laser ablation procedures.

Dr. McElwee is Board Certified.
